Horseback Riding Near Gatlinburg


There are so many great ways to enjoy the natural scenery of Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas but few can match the experience of horseback riding. Gatlinburg sits at the epicenter of many great horse riding stables with options in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Townsend and even Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of these stables allow guests to mount a horse and travel down one of the many nearby equestrian trails through some of the most beautiful scenery around. Take a trip into Great Smoky Mountains National Park by visiting Sugarlands Riding Stables. Sugarlands offers three rides: a 4-mile option (1 hour); a 6-mile option (1.5 hours); and an 8-mile options (2 hours).

Prices start at $40 per person and take guests through wooded trails and mountain streams. Stable staff recommends some riding experience for longer rides.

Smoky Mountain Riding Stable is another great option in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Rides from this stable venture along Dudley Creek and are 3 miles (45 minutes) in length.

The cost for that ride is $26.50, allowing guests to better explore the iconic park. These are mountain trails so expect up-and-down terrain.

There's a lot to do at Big Rock Dude Ranch and horseback riding is a popular option. The trail stretches 3.5 miles, offering views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Rides start at $57.95 per person but there are numerous specials that allow guests to bundle different activities with trail rides. Other activities include the petting zoo, general store and gem mining ore.

Guests to Five Oaks Riding Stable can pay $54.99 for a 3.5-mile horseback trail ride between Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. Guests can also pay $24.99 for a younger child to ride tandem with an adult. There is also a zipline and horseback combo package for $99.

Anakeesta Rail Runner Mountain Coaster

One of the more popular attractions at Anakeesta is the Rail Runner mountain coaster. This is a single-rail coaster that races along a track that's 1,600 feet long and features, downhill twists and turns. It reaches speeds of 25 miles per hour and undergoes an elevation change of 400 feet. While this ride is aimed at single riders, it can accommodate tandem riders. Be sure to review the restrictions and requirements before buying tickets for Gatlinburg's iconic mountain coaster.

Davy Crockett Riding Stables offers various rides starting at $24 for 30 minutes. Other rides include an hour ($35), an hour and a half ($50), two hours ($65) and a half-day ride ($185). Reservations are preferred from March until November but are required outside that span.

Cades Cove offers more than just horseback trail rides. There are also opportuniti8es for carriage rides and hayrides. Trail rides start at $40 for those 13 and up with a $35 fee for those between 6-12. Carriage rides are $22 (13+) and $15 (6-12) while hayrides are $20 (16+) and $15 (2-15).
